Assistant Principal, Niwot, CO

Position Overview. The Assistant Principal is first and foremost a lover of Jesus Christ, children, and learning. Within this relational context, the Assistant Principal is responsible to help set and maintain a joyful, inspirational, and graciously authoritative atmosphere and discipline throughout the school. The Assistant Principal reports to the Executive Director/Principal. In that capacity, the Assistant Principal assists with the overall leadership, supervision, administration, and implementation of the vision, policies, and programs of Rocky Mountain Christian Academy (RMCA). He or she works closely with teachers and parents in the development of Ambleside (ASI) pedagogy, curriculum, and instruction. The Assistant Principal coordinates with the Office Administrator to perform, manage and delegate various administrative tasks related to facilities, budget, admissions, fundraising, marketing, accounting, and personnel. In addition to being academically qualified, as a spokesperson for RMCA, the Assistant Principal articulates and demonstrates a passion for classical Christian education, Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophy, and RMCA’s vision in serving our school families.  


RMCA Leadership.  The Assistant Principal is charged by the Executive Director/Principal to:

  • Lead in delegated RMCA operations
  • Assist in developing, evaluating and retaining quality faculty and staff
  • Lead in developing consistency and effectiveness in implementing Ambleside Schools International’s (ASI) philosophy in school culture formation, student instruction, and faculty development
  • Work closely with office administrator and staff to plan for and serve the school community
  • Serve as a spokesperson for RMCA to parents, churches, and the community
  • Promote RMCA in the community and assist with fundraising programs

Spiritual Leadership.  The Assistant Principal is responsible to the Executive Director/Principal for both personal testimony to and good spiritual leadership of the RMCA staff.  As such, he or she shall:

  • Have accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior
  • Seek to maintain unity of the Spirit within the RMCA community
  • Promote the spiritual growth of the faculty, staff, and students
  • Be a daily example of Christian virtue serving as a Christian role model
  • Be an active member in good standing with a local church whose fundamental beliefs are in agreement with the RMCA Statement of Faith
  • Agree without reservation to the RMCA Statement of Faith

Academic Programs and Standards.  The Assistant Principal is charged with promoting and inspiring a community of existing and potential stakeholders in pursuing a shared vision, leading by informed and genuine example in word and deed. This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Promote a Christian worldview in all aspects of RMCA, particularly throughout curriculum and student life
  • Develop teachers’ understanding and daily application of Ambleside and classical Christian educational philosophy through observations, feedback, training, and evaluation
  • Focus time and attention on critical needs such as new teachers and targeted curricular/instructional areas
  • Coordinate with the Principal a plan for teacher development including regular meetings and staff in-services, grade level and specific discipline meetings
  • Assist with ACSI accreditation through coordinating with Principal and self-study groups  
  • Meeting weekly/daily with Principal to propose and discuss solutions for student, teacher, and academic needs

Management of Personnel.  As delegated by the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for the personnel responsibilities, including the following:

  • Oversee the evaluation, mentoring and motivation of faculty and staff
  • Determining and meeting faculty needs
  • Maintaining personnel standards and policies

Recruiting and Admissions.  As delegated by the Principal, the Assistant Principal is responsible for participating in recruiting and admissions activities.  This includes the following responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Admissions Director on prospective families, admissions testing, and admissions events
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with appropriate admission policies and procedures
  • Assist Principal and Office Administrator in recruitment and training of faculty and staff

Minimum Qualifications:  The following are the minimum qualifications for the position of Assistant Principal at RMCA:

  • A master’s degree in education or associated field
  • Experience with leadership and/or management
  • Experience in classroom instruction

Preferred Qualifications:  The following qualifications are desired but not required for applying for the position of Assistant Principal at RMCA:

  • Experience and training in Charlotte Mason and/or classical Christian educational philosophy
  • Experience as an educational administrator

Position Package: Full-time, 12 month contract from July to August, subject to evaluation and approval each year; position mostly requires school day hours with several scheduled evening events throughout the year; benefits and salary commensurate with experience provided; professional training provided
